Unmanaged Electrical Lines in Kathmandu
13 Jan, 2018 Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal being a population of more than a million has been suffering from many challenges. Air Pollution, Water shortage, unemployment are some of the major problems. To these problems, one of the main problems seen is the unmanaged electricity lines.
Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA) is only organisation which looks after supplying electricity to its customers. Though NEA has been able to cater its huge customers, it couldn’t manage the proper electrification. The roads with electric poles are seen with many number of cables / conductors which are not properly arranged. The condition of the poles are worse due to NEA Conductors as well as Telecom, ISPs and Cable providers.
Though NEA has managed to provide electricity through its poles, the Low voltage service providers have been depending on NEA Poles to cater their customers. The huge load of cables in the poles have led the poles to tilt to a certain angle as well as made the poles to fell down. Sometimes, this has caused the 11 KV line disturbed as well as seen short circuited.
The more number of cables in the poles have put the life of the peoples in the stake in one hand whereas it has created the problems for the continued service to its customers. Although NEA has installed its high tension poles to make the conductors stable and reliable, the Low Voltage (LV) Cables have created a huge headache to its service.
Besides LV Cables seen as the problem, its own conductors sometimes make the problem. The overhauling of the conductors among the phases, the continuous formation of arc have caused a threat to the human life. The service cables from distribution point from poles to the individual’s home are haphazardly distributed which have caused the breakage of cables by some elements which dwells on the road.
Recently it is seen that NEA has warned the LV service providers to take off their cables and devices and tried to remove their cables from poles. This was done as these cables were making a day to day problem for NEA. Though the measures have been taken, these LV Service providers are not worried and are continuing their works taking advantages from NEA poles.
The overall systems needs to be maintained to make it reliable as the leakage in electricity is more due to the loose conductors and hooking of conductors. Thus, NEA should continuously observe and maintain the system to make it healthy by taking any measures that would help them to achieve these situations.

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Thank you!
Howdy! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when browsing from my iphone. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any suggestions, please share. Appreciate it!
